Streetsboro Second Graders Create Digital Explorers Projects

Streetsboro second graders used a combination of digital tools for a social studies project on explorers. To begin, the students took the Explorer’s Personality Quiz at the National Geographic Kid website. The Explorer’s Personality Quiz is an educational tool designed to introduce young children to the unique characteristics and work of different types of explorers from varying regions around the world. By responding to a series of question prompts, a student is matched to a specific explorer profile. Next, the second graders searched for a digital image representing the topography or region that matched their profile to use as a background for their project. Students then took a “selfie” which they added to their scene. As a final step, the second graders used PicCollage to add graphics to dress themselves as an explorer and to customize their scene.
