During their math block in the AT&T Classroom, the West Main second graders are using Monster Math, an iOS app that uses a game format to engage students in math practice. To begin, students are prompted to name their “monster” and then begin their mission: to rescue their monster’s best friend. To do this, they must complete a journey riddled with obstacles in the form of math problems. The journey is divided into multiple levels, each of which focuses on a specific math skill.
The second graders are also using Front Row, a web-based platform that provides lessons for K-8 Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. The Front Row math program is designed to provide personalized practice to students so they can work on math problems at their own pace.
