Holden Fourth Graders Explore Digital Tools for Map Exploration

This afternoon the Holden 4th graders were excited to welcome their principal Mr. Todd Poole for a visit to the AT&T Classroom. Prior to becoming a principal, Mr. Poole was one of the first teachers to bring a class to the AT&T Classroom in the Fall of 2000. This afternoon the fourth graders had an opportunity to share with Mr. Poole the various tools they are using to study maps. The students started today’s lesson by revisiting the class KWHL that they built using Educreations. After a discussion of regarding what they know (K) about maps, what they want to know (W) and how they will learn that information (H), the students used their class Symbaloo to access the websites for today’s assignments. Within Google Drive the students accessed several digital maps posted by Mrs. Yehle in the Google Classroom Stream. The students collaborated in groups to study the maps to investigate any changes in the maps over specific time periods. The students recorded their observations and notes using Google Slides for presentation to the class. At the end of the afternoon, Mrs. Yehle introduced students to Build with Chrome, a free tool accessible in Chrome for building with LEGO bricks online. The fourth graders will be using the tool to design and build a map of the classroom.
