Holden 4th Graders Learn to Code

This afternoon in the AT&T Classroom the Holden fourth graders continued their research and exploration using Google My Maps and posted their findings in their Google Classroom Stream.

Later in the afternoon the students had a coding lesson using the Daisy the Dinosaur iPad app. Daisy the Dinosaur is designed to introduce young students to the basic elements of coding.

The app offers a challenge mode tutorial that shows the user how to use drag-and-drop steps to make the dinosaur move, jump, shrink and grow. There is also a free play mode in which users can design their own program to animate Daisy.

Providing opportunities for students to learn coding skills fosters children’s abilities for mathematical reasoning as well as skills for critical thinking, divergent thinking, creativity and problem solving.
