This afternoon in the AT&T Classroom the Holden Elementary fourth graders were introduced to two new tools they will be using in reading and social studies. Educreations is a multi-platform tool that allows the computer or tablet to function as a digital dry erase board. The app’s features allow the device to record the student’s voice and his/her writing and drawing which can be saved for playback. Once a student finishes their assignment or project in Educreations, they can save their work and then access it from any device with a web browser. Today Mrs. Yehle used Educreations with the students to build a KWHL chart. As a class the students contributed to the “K” (What I know), and then brainstormed the “W” (What I want to know) and the “H” (How will I find the information?).
Later this afternoon, the students were also introduced to Padlet, a free web-based tool that functions as a virtual wall or bulletin board where people can exchange thoughts on a common topic. Users are able to post several forms of content including text, images, and videos. Mrs Yehle used Padlet to create a virtual “World Wall” the students are using to post unfamiliar words they encounter as they are reading their new book, “The Map Trap” by Andrew Clements.
