Second Graders Explore Digital Tools for Word Work

In addition to Vocabulary-Spelling City, two additional apps have been introduced to the students to use in their Daily 5 Word Work groups. Word Avalanche Free uses a game-like format to engage students to work with spelling combinations to form words. Within the game, students are bombarded with an avalanche of letters & have to spell their way out in order to survive.The app is available for free for both iPads and Android devices.  The second graders are also using the Glow Draw! app for Word Work. The app offers glowing paint tools that include paint brushes and spray paint cans which the students can use to create a fluorescent drawing or writing project. The second graders are using Glow Draw! on the iPads for Word Work by using the paint tools to practice writing and spelling words from their weekly spelling lists. Glow Draw! is available for free for both iPads and Android tablets.
