Second Graders Use Educreations as a Literacy Tool

This morning in the AT&T Classroom the second graders learned to use Educreations as a literacy tool. Educreations (http://www.educreations.com)  is a free web-based tool that allows the iPad to record the student’s voice and his/her writing and drawing which can be saved for playback and/or shared online. Educreations can also be used to create stories, animations, presentations, etc. The second graders are using the Educreations app as a literacy tool for both Read-to-Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing. As part of their literacy focus on Word Work and adjectives, the students used the camera feature within the app to take a photo of a picture from their book then use the app’s drawing features to circle the adjectives in the picture. The second graders also learned to use Educreations as a tool for Read-to-Self fluency practice. The students use the camera feature within the app to take a photo of a passage from their book then use the app’s microphone to record themselves reading the passage aloud. The app allows the students and teacher to be able to play back & listen to the passage to assess reading fluency. The students also learned to use Educreations as a writing tool by creating a blank page within the app and using the writing tool to draft a descriptive sentence.
