This afternoon in the AT&T Classroom the Defer fifth graders used AnswerGarden for science writing prompts. AnswerGarden is a free online tool that can be used for polling and brainstorming. The tool is often used by teachers to assess the knowledge level of a class with regard to a certain topic or concept, particularly at the start of a new unit or lesson. Teachers “create” a new garden by typing a question and then share the prompt with the class by embedding it in a blog or website. Mrs. Spence shared the AnswerGarden prompts with the students by posting them in their Google Classroom. After students responded to the questions, the tool created a “garden” of the answers by displaying the most frequent responses in a word cloud.
