RCET is excited to welcome the first graders from Lippman School to the AT&T Classroom. The class begins each morning by logging in to their online community in Edmodo. The Edmodo platform is a Web 2.0 tool that allows teacher and students to communicate and collaborate online, share content, access homework and assignments and participate in online discussions in a safe environment. The first graders are using their Edmodo community has a blog space where they can reply to writing prompts posted by their teacher. After drafting their posts, the class comes back together as a group to share their responses projected on the Apple TV and presentation screen.
The first graders will also be working with the LEGO WeDo Robotics system over the next week. LEGO WeDo combines traditional LEGO bricks with programming software to introduce the basic elements of coding and programming to young children. Across the week the children will explore strategies for building and programming to create increasingly complex LEGO models. This morning the students were introduced to the key bricks and elements of the LEGO WeDo kit that add movement and sound to the projects such as the LEGO USB Hub, motor, tilt sensor, and motion sensor.
