RCET & Walls Second Graders Welcome AT&T Visitors and President Warren to Annual "Hour of Code" in the AT&T Classroom
This morning in the AT&T Classroom we were so happy to welcome visitors from AT&T, Kent State University President Beverly Warren, as well as Principal Singer and Superintendent Joseph. The visitors were so impressed by the coding projects that the Walls second graders have been doing this week in conjunction with National Computer Science Education Week and Kent State’s participation in the “Hour of Code”, a global initiative aimed at providing coding and programming experiences to classrooms around the world.
This morning the students finished their Bitsbox projects and were also introduced to Kodable, a multi-platform tool that uses a game-like format to introduce young children to the basics of computer programming. In addition to coding skills, the tool also provides practice toward specific Common Core Standards. As children progress through the various levels, the game prompts them to “think like a programmer” to solve problems, utilize programming elements such as functions, conditional statements and loops.
