Rootstown Second Graders Create Digital Book Reviews

This morning in the AT&T Classroom, the Rootstown second graders finished and printed their book reviews that they drafted using the Persuasive Map writing tool available on the Read Write Think website.  The Persuasive Map is a writing tool that guides students through the process of writing a persuasive argument. With the new Common Core curriculum standards, persuasive writing is regarded as an important part of the second grade curriculum. Introducing persuasive writing in the primary grades provides students with ongoing practice in using their literacy skills to create and support an argument and their opinions. The book review project gave the students important practice developing an argument/thesis statement, defining the main reasons underlying the statement, providing supporting facts and details, and formulating a conclusion.
