This afternoon in the AT&T Classroom the Lakeview fifth graders were introduced to the basic elements of coding using two free digital tools. Code Monkey is an online game that engages children with coding and programming concepts as they are participate in game play. The website offers new games and challenges to players each month. The fifth graders were also introduced to Hopscotch, an iOS app designed for teaching the basic elements of coding and programming. By manipulating simple drag and drop blocks, Hopscotch introduces students to fundamental programming concepts such as sequencing, abstraction, values and conditionals. The app allows children to sequence code to create simple games, animations, and art. Today the students worked with the app as a group to progress through the app’s introductory levels and basic commands.
