Lakeview Fifth Graders Explore Kent State Campus Virtually and Live

This afternoon as part of their social studies unit in the AT&T Classroom, the Lakeview fifth graders explored Google Earth, a virtual globe, map and geographical information program that allows you to view satellite imagery, maps, roads/streets, terrain, and 3D buildings.Students practiced navigating and searching for locations in Google Earth's satellite and street views. The fifth graders located their own home and then explored the Kent State campus.  After exploring several virtual locations, the class went on a campus photo walk. Prior to their walk the students had a lesson on using the camera feature of the iPad and then ventured out on campus to capture photos of buildings, sculptures and landmarks they had viewed online. Back in the AT&T Classroom, the students selected their favorite photos from their camera roll and created a photo collage using Pic Collage on their iPads. Pic Collage is a free app that can be used to create collages of photos taken with an iOS or Android device.  Features within the app can be used to customize a collage by adding text, backgrounds, and stickers.
