Fifth Graders Explore Digital Tools for Writing and Research

This afternoon the Lakeview fifth graders put the finishing touches on the Thanksgiving writing project that they created with UtellStory.  Using digital tools to create multimedia writing projects provides opportunities for children to use higher order thinking skills to organize the narrative and also provides an opportunity for students to utilize auditory, verbal, visual, and kinesthetic modalities in combination to create a very personalized and meaningful written product. The finished projects were outstanding and each student presented their UtellStory to their classmates. This afternoon the students also began work on a research project related to Native American Indian tribes. Today the students began working in their small groups to conduct online research using Ducksters, a safe search engine designed specifically for elementary and middle school students.
