RCET Welcomes Campers to Animation & Creativity Tools Camp

RCET is excited to welcome our new campers to our Creativity & Animation Tools Camp for children ages 6-8. Across the week, the children will explore a variety of digital tools for creating animations, stories, and other digital media. This morning the campers took advantage of the beautiful weather and went for a walk on campus. Using the camera feature on the iPads, the campers captured photos of campus sculptures, buildings, flowers, and trees. Once back in the AT&T Classroom, the campers shared their photos with one another by projecting them on the large presentation screen and the Apple TV.
The campers also had the opportunity to create their own animated digital puppet show using the Sock Puppets app on the iPads. Sock Puppets is a free app that  allows young children to explore creative storytelling by creating lip-synced puppet shows that can be shared on the iPad or via Facebook or YouTube. The students had a lot of fun creating their puppet show and presenting their productions on the big screen.

Using tools such as Sock Puppets to create digital stories provides opportunities for children to further develop their literacy skills (i.e., reading, writing, speaking & listening) and to also build important twenty-first century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.
