At the start of the school year, Mr. Walters created an
online community for the third graders using Edmodo. The Edmodo platform is a
Web 2.0 tool that allows teacher and students to communicate and collaborate
online, share content, access homework and assignments and participate in
online discussions in a safe environment. Mr. Walters frequently posts writing
prompts to his students in Edmodo, offering opportunities for students to
further develop their literacy skills while also providing them with authentic
writing experiences. Today in the AT&T Classroom, the students logged into
their Edmodo accounts to reply to questions about a story passage posted by Mr.
Walters and the Global Read Aloud partner class in Oregon.
Students were also introduced today to Educreations, a free
app that allows the iPad to record the student’s voice and his/her writing and
drawing which can be saved for playback and/or shared online. Educreations can
be used to create stories, animations, presentations, etc., and you are able to
insert images by drawing or inserting a photo taken from the Internet or
captured with your iPad camera. Educreations is available for iOS and Android devices as well as any tablet or PC with a web browser.
