Fishcreek Third Graders Explore Edison Robots

This afternoon in the AT&T Classroom the Fishcreek third graders were excited to welcome their Academic-Technology Integration Specialist Kristen Fudale.  Miss Fudale joined the students in exploring the classroom’s new set of Edison robots. The Edison is a small programmable robot designed to provide students with hands-on opportunities related to robotics and programming. Edisons have built-in sensors that respond to light and sound changes and can be programmed to travel lines and communicate with other  Edison robots. They are also compatible with LEGO bricks for adding design and building components to Edison projects.
This afternoon the students were introduced to the robot’s components including the line tracking sensor and the light sensors and how those sensors interact with block codes to program the robot. The students completed a  race car challenge and a sumo wrestling game activity that introduced them to the coding steps and processes for programming the Edisons.
