This morning during their literacy block in the AT&T Classroom, the Rootstown third graders focused on acrostic poems using a tool from the Read-Write-Think.org website (RWT). (An acrostic poem is one that uses the letters in a word to begin each line of the poem. All lines of the poem relate to or describe the main topic word). The RWT Acrostic Poem tool is designed to provide a space where students can learn about and write acrostic poems. The tool engages students in brainstorming words to use in drafting their acrostic poem. RWT Acrostic Poem encourages the writing process by allowing students to revise and edit their draft. Final projects can be printed or shared via email.
During their science block, the students have been studying habitats and biomes. This morning the third graders used several live webcams bookmarked in their Symbaloos to explore tundra including Ducksters, Explore.Org, Planet Science, and Planet.Org.
