Riverview First Graders are Experts on the 3Rs

With Earth Day celebrated this week on April 22nd, the Riverview first graders are exploring topics related to environmental protection. Today in the AT&T Classroom the students started their day by drafting a blog post in reply to a writing prompt posted by Mrs. Nichols, “How can we take care of our environment?” After sharing their posts with their classmates, the students had a rich discussion regarding the concept of recycling and the 3Rs of Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle. The students are quickly becoming experts on the topic and are creating digital presentations to share facts about the 3Rs of recycling. Today Mrs. Nichols introduced Haiku Deck to the students as a tool to use to create their projects. Haiku Deck is a free tool that can be used to create presentations on a PC or iPad. The tool’s interface allows students to select themes, backgrounds and add text in various fonts. The tool provides access to a wide selection of photographs or original photos can be uploaded from the iPad camera roll or from Facebook, Flickr, Instagram or Picasa. Finished presentations can be published and shared via Facebook, Twitter or email.
